Contagious Kindness: Unicity Cambodia Makes Life Better

Updated: Nov 4, 2022

Much has been said lately about the rapid spread of contagions. But viruses aren’t all that is spread person to person. According to a study recorded in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, generosity can also be highly contagious. The scientists confirmed acts of kindness can spread first from one to three people, then to nine more, and so on, creating a massive ripple effect.

This is inspiring especially in regards to a recent donation from Unicity Cambodia through the Make Life Better Foundation. On September 17, 2021, Unicity Cambodia and several top leaders donated over US $120,000 to a local Cambodian doctors’ relief organization, Double Diamond. Mr. Mint Meth remarked that this organization is very important to the Cambodian people and their health, especially now. It has provided essential services to the people at no cost during the pandemic.

This kind of generosity is not unfamiliar to Unicity Cambodia. In the past they have donated money to the Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospitals, which provide free medical care for all children and currently treat over 80% of all seriously ill children in the country. Presidential Diamond Chan Dany says, “Sharing together and helping each other is very important to humanity.”

Dominos of Kindness

There is always a need for more kindness and generosity in the world, but we don’t have to give as generously as Unicity Cambodia in order to inspire others. Researcher James Fowler notes, “Personally it’s very exciting to learn that kindness spreads to people I don’t know or have never met. We have direct experience of giving and seeing people’s immediate reactions, but we don’t typically see how our generosity cascades through the social network to affect the lives of dozens or maybe hundreds of people.”

It is exciting to know even small acts of generosity can ripple far beyond our own experience.

“I am inspired and motivated by the many acts of quiet giving and personal sacrifice I have observed in Unicity employees and distributors over the years,” says Bonita Hughes, director of the Make Life Better Foundation. “Their example has increased my desire to serve and to give to improve the lives of others around me.”
